About Dublin Airport, Ireland

Renowned for its architecture and literary tradition, Dublin is a city where history waits around every corner.

See The City

A must-do activity in Ireland’s capital and largest city is seeing the Book of Kells at Trinity College. One of the most beautifully illustrated manuscripts in the world, the book was written around 800 AD by Irish monks and later hidden in the ground to protect it from Vikings. The 680 pages of vellum contain Latin texts of the four Gospels.

The list of not-to-miss sights in Dublin is long: the National Gallery, with its grand collection of European art beginning in the 14th century; St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the largest cathedral in Ireland and one of the few Medieval buildings still remaining; Dublin Castle; Christ Church; the Georgian architecture in Merrion Square, Fitzwilliam Square and along St. Stephens Green.

Dublin was named a UNESCO City of Literature in 2010 and the city’s Creative Quarter is full of libraries and literary museums spotlighting the work of writers such as William Butler Yeats, James Joyce, George Bernard Shaw, Samuel Beckett and their more contemporary brethren.

For culture of another sort, tour the Guinness Storehouse and Old Jameson Distillery. Both sites offer free tastings. And after a day of seeing the sights, you can plan your own pub crawl in Temple Bar.

Explore The Region

Ireland is rich in scenery, history and popular culture, and a set of wheels can put you in the middle of it all.

Trim, a tiny town west of the city, is where Braveheart was filmed. You can find Game of Thrones shooting locations near Giant’s Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site Northern Ireland’s Causeway Coastal Route. The remnants of a 60-million-year-old volcanic event, the causeway consists of 40,000 or so octagonal-shaped basalt pillars spilling into the sea.

Newgrange, the best-known Irish passage tomb, is older than the Great Pyramids of Giza. The main passage and chamber are aligned with the rising sun at the winter solstice.

Pick Up Your Vehicle

Busy Dublin airport is 5.4 miles north of the city center. To find your vehicle, look for the Europcar counter in the arrivals halls of Terminal 1 or near the parking garage of Terminal 2.
